Frequently Asked Questions

1. Are carbon offsets required?

No, carbon offsets are voluntary. You have the choice whether or not to calculate and pay for the climate impacts created by your journey.

2. Can I choose a specific program to use?

Your carbon offset will be done through Climate Impact Partners’ international carbon reduction program; the program uses a balanced approach to carbon reduction across a variety of projects. This provides a reasonable price per ton of carbon. For information on the program you are supporting, please see the Climate Impact Partners website.

3. Can I get certification for my carbon offset?

Yes, you will receive a carbon reduction certificate produced by Climate Impact Partners. The certificate will show what travel was offset and how much carbon has been offset, and you will also receive additional information to help you learn more about your carbon footprint.

4. How can I get more information on the program I’m supporting?

On the Climate Impact Partners website, you can learn more about the program you’re supporting.

5. How often is the calculator updated?

All data is updated on a yearly basis to reflect EVA Air’s actual fuel usage.

6. If I have questions, who should I contact?

If you have technical questions about using the calculator, please contact Carbon Analytics. If you’d like to know more about the carbon offset program, please see the Climate Impact Partners website.

7. When passenger fuel usage is calculated, is fuel usage for cargo carried by passenger aircraft (belly cargo) included in the calculation?

The fuel usage for belly cargo is excluded from the carbon emission calculations; the carbon emission calculated only reflects carbon emissions from passengers.

8. If my trip is changed or canceled, can I get a refund on my carbon offset?

Your offset fee is directly paid to Climate Impact Partners for use in funding their global carbon-reduction program. If your trip is changed or canceled, your offset fee will still be used to fund Climate Impact Partners’ program. EVA Air has no way to provide refunds on carbon offset fees.

9. Where does my money go?

Unlike other carbon offset programs, for this program, EVA Air does not collect any money or directly add any carbon offset fees to your airfare. The money you pay goes directly to Climate Impact Partners to fund their global carbon-reduction program. EVA Air pays all fees for developing, creating, maintaining, updating, and managing this program.
