“Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time. Climate change will affect, in profoundly adverse ways, some of the most fundamental determinants of health: food, air, water.” Dr Margaret Chan, Director General of the World Health Organisation.

Increases of heat-trapping gases in the earth’s atmosphere (such as carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide – collectively referred to as greenhouse gases) through the burning of fossil fuels is throwing our naturally balanced ecosystem out of kilter – causing changes in the planet’s climate and weather patterns, this in turn has caused increases in heat waves, floods and rising sea levels.

In 2015 worldwide flights produced around 2% of all human induced greenhouse gas emissions    (Source: ATAG).

At EVA Airways we strive to minimise our impact on the climate and the world’s environment. We have improved the efficiency of our aircraft through the modernisation of our fleet, aircraft weight reduction and flight operation, etc. Between 2013 and 2015 we prevented over 120,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions going into the atmosphere. We have also implemented other environmental management policies in our office and for our vehicles. For more information please go to EVA‘s Environment page.

However, with current technologies available, however hard we work to improve our efficiency, flying still leads to the generation of carbon emissions. To help neutralise this impact we offer all customers the opportunity to offset emissions from their flight through our carbon calculator.
